Do you know this special glass? What is a Blida and where does it come from?

The Blida is a Champagne glass that is primarily known and used by the inhabitants of Champagne. It accompanies weddings, baptisms, birthdays, and festivities in general. It is especially appreciated for the honorary wine. It is less fragile than a Champagne glass or a flute and is easier to transport and serve. Thanks to its size, you can take this small glass everywhere, from the reception table to the park, during outings with family or friends. Almost unbreakable and ultra-modular, the "Blida de Champagne" is perfect for sharing a bottle with 8 to 10 people, compared to 6 people with flutes and glasses.

What are the origins of the Blida?

Well, this glass is actually a tea glass! It originally comes from a glass factory not far from the city of Reims. There, small tea glasses were produced for export to the city of Blida in Algeria. Thus, their name was changed from "Verres pour Blida" (glasses for Blida) to "un Blida" (a Blida).
These tea glasses then fell into the hands of the Champagne winemakers, who were delighted by their practicality. Its capacity is about 7 to 8 cl, which is perfect for serving 10 Blidas per bottle.
Furthermore, it is not very wide and tall enough for the Champagne bubbles to unfold!

And have you ever tried Champagne from a Blida glass? What did you think?
