Champagne Domaine Méa
There are not many female winemakers at the head of a Champagne house! As a fifth-generation member of Domaine Méa Champagne (formerly Guy Méa), Sophie Milési-Méa is making a smooth transition with her own ideas, and the wines are following suit. On soil that is considered powerful, she brings finesse to the wines.
Sophie Moussie works together with her husband Franck and her mother Evelyne on the 9.5 hectares of vineyards located around Louvois – 1er and Grand Cru site.
In the Middle Ages, "LOUPVOIE" meant the path of the wolves and showed the way these animals took as they emerged in packs from the forests.
Sophie recounts: "Today, it's my turn, with my family, to contribute my stone to the building of Maison Méa. As a child, I used to repeat with a smile on my face and a mischievous look: 'When I grow up, I'll be a "Champagneuse"!' You won't find this word in the dictionary; it came straight from the mind of a child raised in the rhythm of the seasons and the harvests, who could recognize the smell of wines beginning to work in the cellar in a thousand places."
Sophie is one of the Fa'bulleuses de Champagne!
