Champagne Caillez-Lemaire
Since 2005, Virginie and Laurent Vanpoperinghe have taken over the winery from Virginie's parents after they retired. The Caillez-Lemaire family has been winemakers since the 18th century. Only Virginie's paternal grandparents began producing and selling their own champagne.
Virginie explains: " We own 7 hectares of vineyards (3.5 of which are Pinot Meunier, 2 as Chardonnay, and 1.5 as Pinot Noir) divided into 57 plots in 6 different villages , with a large majority in Damery, our village of origin. This division gives us an interesting variety of terroirs.
We have been certified as HVE (High Environmental Value viticulture) since 2014, but we want to go even further in this direction and not just stick to this directive. We cultivate our soil more and more each year, despite some vineyards being difficult to access. In these vineyards with steep slopes, grass grows in every row to combat erosion. The roots develop deeper, and the terroir will express itself even more in our champagnes.
