Champagne Philipponnat

Champagne Philipponnat

Since 1522, the Philipponnat family, formerly purveyors to Louis XIV and magistrates of Ay, has owned vineyards in Ay and Mareuil, on the best slopes of the Premier and Grand Cru sites. They cultivate 20 hectares and produce 600,000 bottles annually. Pinot Noir is the main grape variety. The Champagnes are full-bodied and harmonious, complex and expressive, characterized by the power of the Pinot Noir grape. The use of the best musts, vinification in wooden barrels, and longer maturation in the cellar – all of this makes Philipponnat's style so unique!

Philipponnat carefully produces wines before they are made into Champagne: vinous, intense, and fresh. Philipponnat meticulously monitors

every step of the production process:
- Soils are cultivated with great respect for nature and the environment
- Grapes are harvested later than usual in the Champagne region
- Minimal intervention during the production and aging process
- The first "Grande Maison" with all technical information on the label

Charles Philipponnat is a fortunate man. Because he runs the house his ancestors founded. And because it includes a very special vineyard: the legendary Clos des Goisses is located only a few hundred meters from the Philipponnat headquarters in Mareuil. It is not only one of the few true single vineyards in Champagne, it is also the most spectacular. Single vineyard Champagnes are rare. Great Champagnes are blends. At Philipponnat, it's different. Here, the steep vineyard, planted with Pinot Noir, with a 45-degree slope above the Marne Canal, influences the style of all Philipponnat wines, as does a microclimate with 1.5°C above the average temperature, a soil of 100% chalk, and a southern exposure.

They only acquired Clos des Goisses in 1935. Nevertheless, it quickly became a symbol of the house. No one knows better than Charles Philipponnat why it produces such an unmistakable Champagne. "Pinot Noir is the grape variety in Champagne that needs the most sun," comments the head of the house. "If it doesn't get it, it produces palatable, but also relatively neutral wines. Here in the Clos, on the chalky flank of the Montagne de Reims, it ripens particularly well and becomes the basis for incredibly powerful, full-bodied, characterful Champagnes that can age for an eternity."

How to Find Your Perfect Champagne

Four simple steps to the ideal champagne for every occasion
1

Determine occasion

Consider the occasion for which the champagne will be served. Celebrations, an aperitif, or with a meal?
2

Choose flavor profile

Do you prefer fruity-fresh, elegant, or full-bodied aromas? The dosage determines the sweetness of the Champagne.
3

Recognizing Quality

Pay attention to origin, vintage, and maturation period. Prestige cuvées offer exceptional quality for special moments.
4

Perfect Serving Temperature

Serve champagne at 8-10°C. The correct temperature optimally unfolds the full range of aromas.
